Myths of Sleeping - ABC And My Thoughts

What we do not realise is the most vital and important part of living our lives, in every day living. That is Sleep. The kind of sleep you have, length of sleep and your own level comfort. And then you have to think of the level of comfort of others, as you sleep. Or do you?

I'm not a professional expert. I am just like the ordinary person like yourself, juggling day to day life. To me, life is important.

I have been sleeping for  over 57 years, believe or not. That make myself a sort of expert with 'Sleep'. In the early part of  our lives, sleep is a natural part of life from the day we are born. In fact, we get a lot of sleep every day, we hardly talk, we cry and we open our eyes for short periods of time. As we are growing up from being a baby, we lose our sleep and we spend more time learning how to talk, walk, play and  have our moments of  'shouts of joy'.

So how do we accommodate the loss of sleep as we grow up, we don't.  Depending how we enjoy our lives, we will sleep anywhere from 8-9 hours to as little as 4-5 hours. That is an incredible difference as we go through school, study and work throughout our lives until retirement.

When we are studying and working, we need time to study after school hours and that is when we lose our sleep. When we are working, when we reach home, we need to clean our homes, prepare and have dinner  and also many other things occur - that reduces our sleep. Do we catch up with our sleep?

Basically, we don't. Everyday brings a lot activities for ourselves, inclusive of weekends being busy playing sports, visit family and friends or as we become adults, raising children.

The basic thumb rule is the more restful sleep we get, the more chance that the next day is peaceful, restful and less stressful. Our bodies need sleep and if we don't get that sleep, we become emotionally tired and stressed out.

Now, for myself because of my occupation and when I start late shift over  18 years ago  (Finishing late shift at 9.30pm in the begining), I have found it hard to go to bed and sleep early, until recently. I would be sleeping all late hours of night until early morning and waking up within the 4-5 hours sleep period. A habit hard to break. I would feel tired prior to arriving at work or an early start and get used to a new routine hours of work and sleep.

I had to watch TV at night, publish posts on my blogs or face book and the posts would be  forever an event to think out. It became a passion as I discovered you can tell the world the community and world of your ideas/comments for  helping others.

I stopped doing late shift the last year or so and my and I did find it hard to still sleep earlier at night. Just recently having vitamins, new partner and doctors  providing advice of early sleep and benefits, my life has changed and I am getting less tired, have less fatigue. I am enjoying my life more.

I feel for a lot of shift workers that work odd hours for years or decades and understand what they go through.  A shock to us will be the  following sleeping hours recommended by the National Sleep Foundation Click here for details
